Current Activities

1

Friday Prayer

One of the biggest and most outstanding activities in the Center is the arrangement for the observation of Friday Prayer in a congregation of 80-100 people.

The sermon begins at 1 PM and the prayer is established at 1:30 PM. In addition to our appointed Imam and Khateeb, there is a good number of scholars in the Chicago area who are cooperating with the center in giving sermons and in leading prayer, and this has caused a healthy and beautiful variation in the nature and content of the subject matter presented in the sermon.

Quran Halaga

This is a weekly program for men and women. Both Halagas provide a good chance for our community members to learn how to read and recite the Quran (Tajweed), an opportunity to meet, socialize, and learn from one another.

The men's Halaga is held every Tuesday evening 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM. This Halaga has been running for the past sixteen (16) years, thanks God for his blessing.

The women's Halaga is held each Saturday when a good number of ladies attend, and for those who want to learn the finer art of reciting the Noble Quran, Dr. Khalid Albadewy teaches a class every Wednesday 11:00 A – 2:00 PM.

English Class

The English class takes place every Sunday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, and is currently taught by a native speaker who is certified to teach English as a second language.

A good number of our community members attend regularly, especially women (moms) who recently arrived and want to learn the English language.

Ramadon Program

The blessed month of Ramadan is a special time of the year for our community; it is the time where we break the fast together twice a week, every Saturday and Tuesday of the month. It is also the time for our community members to perform TARAWAH prayer in our Center, young and old.  Several members in our community have memorized a good number of chapters in the Quran. They alternate in leading the prayers, giving the congregation a better opportunity to listen to a number of voices and a rich variety of recitations.

Each family in the community contributes a special traditional dish for the IFTAR. Ramadan is a time when our community practices and preserves the traditional way of breaking the fast at Home

6

Monthly Speaker

Each month a speaker from our community or a guest is invited to give a lecture on a topic of our community’s choice, based on the needs, the events and circumstances of the time. Audience would have the chance to ask questions and present their point of view in a very intellectual setting. It’s a good forum for our community members to learn about very important topics that impact their day-to-day life.
